 Bugs!

According to the designer, this screen saver should present the wonder of life on your screen. Bugs simulate the development of a community that consists of 2 life forms: the insects and the plants.

The bugs look like ladybugs, and the plants look like little Christmas trees (without the decorations!) Due to their various adaptability (which is controlled by the user), each of the life forms takes its turn dominating the scene. The bugs eat the plants (that was to be expected), have sex (OK, not all of them), and sleep (some of them too long).

The plants are either big or little, and can taste either good or bad (the difference is based on color). Some of the plants are really poisonous, too. If the bug is smart, it will stick to the non-poisonous plants and will then live long enough to pass on his genes to the next generation. When the bugs get the upper hand, there are then not enough good tasting non-poisonous plants to go around. As a result, the bug population is naturally reduced.

The user has the possibility to adjust the number of bugs and plants, as well as the rate of reproduction, and therefore has total control over the development of this little community. Unfortunately, the state of development is not saved when hen the screen saver is deactivated (large, highly developed bugs can only be seen in the fast forward mode).

The "save" option as well as other life forms and communities can be found at the Bugs! Homepage for $9.95.
