For many of us, screen avers are downloaded alone for aesthetic reasons. But whoever would like to install a screen saver not just for the fun of it, but to further advancements in cancer research should download the screen saver "Think" onto their computer. In cooperation with Oxford University, the American company United Devices offers a free program that transforms unused computer capacity for furthering cancer research. The program transfers little data packets to the user, who then allows them to be run through their computer and back to the main computer. The scientists are hoping that the networking of millions of PCs will help to significantly reduce the time it takes to develop cancer medication. In order to use "Think", you must first sign up with the project with your name and password. The program, which operates on the same principle as the seti@home-projekt, only activates when the user's processor is inactive. Only a small icon on the task bar and the screen saver, which shows molecules, are reminders that Think is even present.
